Design Systems at Dialpad

Dialpad had an established design system for desktop and mobile. When the company partnered with Poly to move into conference rooms, the TV became a context that system had never been built for. I was the only designer on it, and I designed both the meeting experience for the room display and the component library behind it.

A room display is a screen nobody touches. It's read from across a room, driven by a separate controller, and shared by everyone in the meeting. Type scales up to stay legible at ten feet, controls move off the screen entirely, and content gets reduced to what reads at a glance. Rather than stretch the existing desktop foundations onto a screen they were never sized for, I defined a TV-specific scale and component set that carried Dialpad's visual language but the right anatomy for the room. I created it with engineering, so we both had a single reference to work from as the surface grew.
